■発信したメッセージ全文
Since March 11, when a tremendous earthquake followed by gigantic tsunami rocked Japan, we have received numerous messages and expressions of sympathy from all over the world. On behalf of all members of the NYK Group in Japan, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the support provided not only to NYK but also to everyone in the country.

We would like to report that no NYK employees were physically harmed in this disaster, but the safety of one family member of a group-company employee has regretfully not been confirmed. We continue to pray for her safety. In addition, three bulk carriers conducting operations at ports were damaged by the tsunami, but we are happy to report that the crew members on board were rescued by the Japan Coast Guard.

Rescue operations continue and many people are struggling for survival. At this stage, the loss of life is expected to rise to around 20,000 souls. NYK, as a leading shipping company, is devoted to supporting the victims of this disaster by making our ships available for the carriage of goods to those in need.

Although we have to admit that damage by the disaster is unprecedented and serious in many ways, NYK Line has overcome numerous challenges over its 125-year history, and we remain committed to doing so once again.

Once again, I would like to express my appreciation to those who have offered their support. We hope Japan will recover from this tragic calamity as soon as possible.

Warm regards,

Yasumi Kudo
President
